21days.

its so surreal that in 18hours, i'll be starting a new chapter in my life.

21 days was all i had to uproot my entire life here and spend the next 5 years in a place i've never even set foot on.
and the thought of it is just scary.. but at the same time, exhilarating.
to think that when i applied for it, i never expected myself to get accepted and as time passed, i felt that the chances of me getting an offer got slimmer and slimmer.
i'd already convinced myself to just finish my science degree, and to give up on dentistry. so when the offer came i really couldnt make a decision. but i know that if i let this opportunity pass, it'll be one of the biggest regrets in my life.

to my parents and grandfather, im grateful for their support and their encouragement to me to go ahead and chase my dreams. i was quite reluctant to go because of the heavy burden i'll be placing on them but i know they just want what's best for me. daddy secretly told me that when he was younger it was his dream to study overseas but he didnt have the opportunity and im glad that he's excited for me. its a tough course but for them, i promise myself i'll work hard! cos no matter how tough things get, i know im tougher! :D

im leaving so much behind in singapore when i leave ): people always complain about how small and hot and boring sg is but honestly i really love it here. maybe cos this is where home is (:
so im trying to convince myself that its not what im leaving behind, but its what i stand to gain! (最厉害就是自己骗自己 :x)

SO GOODBYE THUNDERSTORMS AND HELLO ADELAIDE!

2012

2012 was one hell of a ride. it kinda felt like i lived a few years squeezed into one. im actually thankful for everything that has happened this year. i dont know how to say it but im just soooo contented and totally at peace with the world :D i guess on the surface, it was a rough year with loads of shit happening to me but actual fact i thank God for it. it made me appreciate how lucky i am to have such a warm family and to have such wonderful friends in my life.
1.1st Jan, 12.01am.
started off the year with a さん, に, いち.. あけましておめでとうございます! (3,2,1..happy new year)
i just copied and pasted off google translate. fail..

the first sunrise of the year

was in tokyo for the new year's countdown and it was an amazing experience complete with my definition of the perfect chilly weather, fireworks, a warm wooly scarf and great company. the whole atmosphere is just so different in tokyo, and its one of the reasons why i love japan so much!! :D it was post A levels, it was a brand new year, life was gooooood.

2. got my first job at Q&M dental surgery as a dental nurse!

i look weird in a surgical gown.

sure, it was ridiculously stressful and i had a ton of really technical procedures and equipment to memorize but i absolutely loved it :D there was so much to learn and so many interesting things to mess around with haha. like my self shot with an x-ray machine :D HOW COOL IS THAT??!!

i have wonky wisdom teeth ):

i practically jumped around excitedly every time i see operations scheduled in the daily appointments!! ops are stressful to assist yet so worth the mini heart attacks i get from it :D i remember people always complaining that i sound really morbid when i talk about my job and blood and drills and exposed jaw bones and titanium screws haha. but i cant help getting so excited over it! i could go on and on about this, but moving on..

3. the moment of truth

my A level results werent as good as what i hoped for but it was good enough for me to be shortlisted for an interview with NUS dentistry. still got rejected in the end but it was comforting to know that at least i had a shot at it, that all those times i spent forcing myself to study, with dentistry as my motivation, paid off. oh wells. and that brings us to..

4. rock bottom

this was seriously my lowest point in 2012. got dumped, then got rejected by dentistry and i kept thinking what the hell was wrong with me! call me crazy but im actually really thankful things turned out the way they did. the rejection from dentistry gave me a chance to explore other options and other career paths. it made me consider seriously for the first time, how much does it mean to me exactly? and what would i give up for it?

as for the breakup, he made me a little less naive, a little less gullible and a little more independent. he made me see my flaws clearly, that i give my complete trust too easily, that i have such a rose-tinted view of the world. the sky could come crashing down and i guess i probably wouldnt realize it.

and it was from this point on that everything just started to go right again (:

to be honest, once the tears stopped, i actually love being single. i love the freedom that comes with it, the peace of mind, and being alone but never lonely. i had so much more time for my dear friends and family. and i could feel myself constantly being in a good mood! when we were together, i didnt realise how much your moodiness affected my mood as well, and how unhappy you could make me at times. and how constantly quarreling with you over trivial things was so draining and taxing. i thank you for the good times, the sweet and thoughtful things you did and the lovely memories. it pains me that i lost a friend but i am absolutely grateful that you chose to remove yourself from my life. thank you.

shit happens, and im glad they do.

5. CLIO

so grateful to have met this awesome bunch of people during SCAMP :D they make school life so much more entertaining haha

6. IM A (RAG) DANCER. who am i kidding, i cant dance to save my life.

this has got the be the most adventurous thing i ever did in my entire life. dancing. omfg. must have been possessed when i put my name down.
the 6 weeks of almost daily practices and hard work all paid off in those 6 short minutes. and the memories of crazy moments and stayovers and the friendships forged? priceless.

7.  first 10K run!

never even dreamed that i'd be able to do this. just last year, i was some sabohed PE rep that couldnt even pass my SBJ(143cm thanks and still cant jump for nuts) and took shortcuts during national day mass run (from 3km cut to 1km plus, not bad :D ) but now i can easily hit 10k in less than 75mins. i know its not very fast compared to others but for me its *achievement unlocked*!
best, i managed to shave my 2.4km timing all the way down to 12.4 mins :D considering how i used to jog 2 rounds, walk 4 rounds and hit an amazing timing of 16mins, 12.4 is like flying already! *pats*

8. CHIRSTMAS!!

an early Christmas with the primary school girls/ Christmas eve accompanying my parents to watch a getai/ Christmas morning spent with the darlings at Toby's estate/ hitting the Christmas sales with my sis followed by a family BBQ/ boxing day with the best friend that i want to box!

9. SEM1 results

managed to scrape a CAP of 3.5. its decent.. but pfft. its bad. maybe i had too high expectations of myself? idk. but all i know is that im going to try harder in sem2!

10. the start of another year..

i appreciate every moment of 2012, the good the bad and the ugly, every tear shed and every smile. its the end of a year and the start of a new one. i dont know what 2013 will bring but im all geared up for another ride around the sun. so HELLO 2013!!
